KICK IT UP WITH BUDGET WISE, SMART COOKING FOR DIABETICS

April 7th program offers tasty tips

March 12, 2008 – Who says learning healthy eating habits can’t be fun and taste phenomenal? The Norwell Visiting Nurse Association (VNA) Diabetes Support Group invites you to start spring off on a healthy foot. They have spiced up the curriculum of this month’s meeting to welcome in the spring with flavor.

This month’s meeting will feature an entertaining presentation entitled “Budget Wise, Food Smart Cooking for Diabetics” led by Norwell VNA Certified Diabetes Instructor and group facilitator Lori Mahoney, RN and BSN. The group will next meet on Monday, April 7, 2008 from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. at the South Shore Baptist Church located at 578 Main Street, Hingham. All South Shore residents are invited to attend.

With a focus on having a healthy start to spring, Mahoney will share with participants easily prepared meals that can help keep diabetics healthy, hearty and happy. Mahoney will provide a cooking demonstration in which the participants will be able to learn first hand how to prepare healthy meal choices. Participants will be able to sample the dishes and leave with the tools they will need to recreate these meals and more at home.

“Establishing a diet that is healthy, varied and delicious can be challenging for diabetics,” said Mahoney. “We hope our participants will leave this month’s meeting with the information they need to start eating healthier and start spring out on the right foot. There are many healthy eating options available to diabetics and I hope that we will be able to identify some they may not have considered before.”

Supported by the Friends of the Norwell VNA, the Diabetes Support Group is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be provided, and there is plenty of free, handicapped accessible parking. For more information about the Diabetes Support Group or the Norwell VNA, please visit the website at www.nvna.org or call Lori Mahoney at 781-659-2342.
