Support Groups

For Caregivers only:

Caregivers Support Group – meets the third Thursday of the month from 6:30 to 8:00 pm at Duxbury Senior Center, 10 Mayflower Street, Duxbury, MA. This group is open to all South Shore caregivers who are caring for a loved one or friend. It is not disease specific. Meetings, which are co-facilitated by trained professionals, offer information and resources, education about specific caregiving issues, and an opportunity for caregivers to share coping and caregiving strategies and techniques.

Caregivers of Early to Mid Stage Alzheimer's Support Group - meets the third Wednesday of the month from 10:30 am to 12:00 noon at Village at Proprietor’s Green, 10 Village Green Way, Marshfield, MA. Offered in collaboration with Welch Healthcare & Retirement, this group is open to all South Shore residents caring for a loved one with early stage Alzheimer's. Meetings are co-facilitated by trained, certified Alzheimer's professionals and offer information and resources, education and support, strategies and techniques for caring and coping with caregiving issues.

Caregivers of Mid-Stage Alzheimer’s Support Group – meets the second Wednesday of the month from 10:30 am -12:00 noon at Norwell VNA and Hospice, 120 Longwater Drive, Norwell, MA. This group is open to all South Shore caregivers who are specifically caring for a loved one with mid to late stage Alzheimer’s. Meetings alternate between educational sessions featuring guest speakers in key aspects of Alzheimer’s care, and support facilitated by trained professionals.

For individuals dealing with a specific disease and their caregivers:

Early Stage Alzheimer’s and Their Care Partners Support Group - meets the first Wednesday of the month from 10:30 am to 12:00 noon from October through May at South Weymouth Church of the Nazarene, 385 Ralph Talbot St., South Weymouth. This group is open to individuals with early stage Alzheimer's and their caregivers. Co-facilitators who are trained in Alzheimer’s care offer support, education, caring and coping strategies and techniques, and information about available resources. Diabetes Support Group – meets the first Monday of the month from 10:00 to 11:00 am at NVNA and Hospice, 120 Longwater Drive, Norwell, September - May. Open to all South Shore residents, the group includes both people with diabetes and caregivers and provides support, information and networking opportunities. Facilitated by a certified diabetic educator, each monthly meeting features a different topic to help persons with diabetes manage their condition.

Brain Aneurysm Support Group – meets the second Wednesday of the month from 7:00 to 8:30 pm at Norwell VNA and Hospice, 120 Longwater Drive, Norwell, MA. Open free to all South Shore residents, the group provides patients, survivors and family members with educational tools and emotional support. The goal of support group meetings is to help alleviate fears and concerns through education and group discussions. Discussion topics include origin of brain aneurysms and AVMs, treatment and prognosis, recovery, and coping with the "new" you. Trained clinicians facilitate the group.

For individuals coping with a loss

Bereavement Support Group – is an eight-week program open to all South Shore residents who have suffered a loss within the past year. (Not limited to families of Norwell VNA and Hospice patients.) A licensed Bereavement Coordinator, who can be reached at 781-659-2342 leads the program. Program is offered at Norwell VNA and Hospice, 120 Longwater Drive, Norwell, MA.
