Our Dietician Claire Kennedy and Nurse Ginny Lavin, who lead our free Diabetes Support Group, recently offered some tips to a healthy Thanksgiving. As you sit down with family and friends for big holiday meals, consider these wellness tips.

- Forewarned is forearmed. Go to your holiday meal prepared, make sure that you eat something healthy a few hours before the main meal so that you’re not starving when you sit down to eat.
- Mindful eating. Experience, appreciate, respect, and enjoy your food. Eat slowly, do not gulp it down. Being mindful gives the full signals from your gut a chance to reach your brain. This helps you to stop eating when you are satisfied rather than when you have consumed too much.
- Moderation is the key! You should be able to enjoy everything on the holiday table by making some minor adjustments here and there. Do not deprive yourself of any one food. If you do, you will just set yourself up for failure, and probably end up eating it anyhow and more.
- Have a very happy Thanksgiving!
